Chicken tandoori is cooked with exotic Indian spices & herbs and in a traditional Indian oven called tandoor.
Tandoor is an Indian version of oven. In many parts of the world we have seen different varieties of ovens. These ovens are used to bake cookies, pizzas, breads and other dishes. Most of the traditional ovens are made of clay, stones and bricks and fire is used to heat these ovens, and traditional tandoors are not different. These tandoor ovens are made of clay and fire is made beneath them. Food is cooked with the help of skewers. Today with the advancement of technology, new and more convenient tandoor ovens have also been introduced in the market.
Today there are mainly three kinds of tandoor oven that are used in Indian kitchens and restaurants
Clay Tandoor Oven - Clay ovens are the most traditional ones and are still used in rural India and Pakistan for cooking naan and other tandoori dishes. Many small and medium size restaurants also use these tandoors. Clay tandoor is basically a 3 to 4 feet long pot made of clay. Hot coals are put under the pot to heat it and food is placed inside the hot clay pot with the help of skewers. These are perfect for outdoor cooking but are not convenient and safe for indoor cooking in small kitchens.
Electric Tandoor Oven - As the name suggests this oven runs on electricity. These tandoors are small in size and much easier to use. These modern tandoors are designed for our smart and modern kitchens. You can store them easily and no mess is made while using these ovens. These tandoor ovens come with shelves and skewers for multipurpose uses.
Gas Tandoor Oven - Gas tandoor ovens are metal pots that can be used on our normal gas stoves. Safe, compact, easy to use, multipurpose, elegant looking - this gas oven has got acceptance in almost all modern kitchens where tandoori food is cooked.
